San Antonio's CPS Energy to weatherize 16,000 homes; see if you're eligible.

SAN ANTONIO - CPS Energy is aiming to weatherize more than 16,000 homes over the next five years.

CPS is asking homeowners to sign up for its Casa Verde Program which will provide up to $4,500 in repairs to wall insulation, solar screens, window caulking and air sealing.

On Saturday, it held its energy block party where homeowners learned about the program and how it can cut their energy usage.

Through Casa Verde, CPS Energy will provide up to $4,500 in repairs to your home.

This includes wall insulation, solar screens, window caulking, and air sealing.

The program is targeted toward lower-income homeowners.

The company says it benefits the community in several ways.

"It helps keep rates lower so we're not having to buy energy off the grid," said Laura Jacobs with CPS Energy. "Additionally, it helps us from having to build new infrastructure to help support energy usage additionally it has benefits to the community, if you're able to save money that's the biggest benefit to the community."
